Mac Multitouch
One of the greatest selling points for me when I bought my Macbook Pro was the new and improved touchpad. Everyone has seen the iPhone ads demonstrating the "pinch" zooming, rotating pictures, and cover-flow integration, and its no wonder that most of us have found it very attractive! Unfortunately, the Macbook Pro (well, Mac OSX) only takes advantage of this new control system in native Apple apps. For example, you can move forward and backward in Safari's history by swiping left and right with three fingers, or twist and resize pictures in Preview. All hope is not lost, however! Today I'm going to show you how to use these trackpad gestures in most every day-to-day program. All you need is a config app called Multiclutch (direct .zip link). Just download, unzip, and double-click the prefpane file to 'install'. Once you have done this, you need to configure the application you wish to use gestures in. The interface is extremely simple and can be accessed from the System Preferences, see Image 1. Just like every other preference, double click the pane to access the main interface (see Image 2). As you can see, I've already configured Firefox (my browser of choice!) to perform basic actions with trackpad gestures. To set your own, You click the 'Add Gestures' + sign and voila! (See Image 3) Choose from one of the myriad choices, then assign a shortcut key. It's that easy! Although this software is free, the developers DO want donations, so you if Multiclutch tickles you, be sure to throw some green their way! -Chris
